Promoting the rule of law and protecting human rights in security and policing activities represents one of the most pressing challenges facing contemporary societies. Balancing the effectiveness of security institutions with the safeguarding of fundamental rights and freedoms is a cornerstone of building a state of law and achieving social justice.
Security and human rights are not contradictory — they are complementary. Neither can be fully achieved without the other.
In light of the rapid developments witnessed globally in both security and human rights domains, there is an urgent need to develop comprehensive scientific and academic frameworks that strengthen the capacity of security institutions to perform their duties in accordance with international human rights standards, while maintaining the rule of law and ensuring accountability and transparency.
With this in mind, Al-Istiqlal University, in partnership with the Public Prosecution, the Police Force, and the Independent Commission for Human Rights, organizes this International Refereed Scientific Conference, which seeks to bring together researchers, academics, and practitioners in the legal, security, and human rights fields to exchange expertise and scientific research.
